I've built decks across seven categories that don't actually share a template, even though most of the industry treats them like they do.
You still need to get creative for each one. Luckily, that's still a thing.
Investor pitches from seed to Series A, M&A and deal presentations, B2B sales decks, webinar and training decks, real estate project decks, product showcase decks, and marketing and branding presentations.
An M&A deal presentation and a seed pitch deck are different documents that happen to share a 16:9 page size. Unless you are still into the 4:3 layout. Hey! Traditions are like that. No judgement whatsoever.
A seed pitch deck is a presentation that tries to get someone excited about a future that doesn't exist yet. An M&A CIM is a comprehensive document, trying to get someone comfortable enough with a real, current business to sign something binding.
There is no one size fits all here. Use the same slide structure for both and you end up with a due diligence deck that still has a vision slide with a rocket on it.
I've designed for several companies. Big ones like HubSpot and eSmartSystems, and much smaller ones still finding their footing. Across markets that have nothing in common with each other, except that someone on the other end had about 90 seconds to decide if the deck was worth a second look.
Range isn't a nice-to-have in this work.
What I actually offer, and I'm sure you do as well with your own projects, is seven different jobs that happen to use the same software. That's about it.
How are you using all the available tools we have at our disposal to add more value to your customers? How are you moving away from templates into more tailored solutions? And most importantly, have you found any real difference when creating something from scratch for each specific project?
