My experience with Affinity
As a teacher and designer, I was recently tasked with creating a banner for my university’s webpage. I took it as an opportunity to test the newly free Affinity design tools.
What I liked: 1. It’s free and fully featured. 2. All-in-one approach. Having vector, raster, and layout tools in a single suite is the way to go. It works great in Affinity, while Adobe still relies on separate apps. 3. Excellent performance.
What I didn’t like: 1. The UI can be confusing. I expected to Google a few things, but I ended up searching for settings far more than anticipated. Some workflow options should really be enabled by default. 2. Text editing bugs. I ran into issues with line height, kerning, and font sizing.
Overall: It’ll take some time to fully adjust to Affinity, but it's earned a spot on my dock.
