KRISHNA AND PANCHMUKHI A Tale of Friendship and Loyalty

Part 1: The Meeting & the Rescue In a small village called Rajpur, there lived a nine-year-old boy named Krishna. His parents were poor farmers who worked hard to provide for their family. Every day, Krishna would take the family's goats and sheep into the forest to graze. One morning, Krishna woke up early and set out to the forest with his animals. After some time, he became thirsty and walked toward a nearby pond to drink water. As he bent down to cup the water in his hands, his eyes fell upon something extraordinary—a five-headed snake lying motionless on the bank. The snake's name was Panchmukhi, and he lay there unconscious due to a severe wound or illness that covered his body. Krishna approached the wounded snake cautiously. He examined Panchmukhi's condition carefully and decided to help. Leaving the pond, he ventured deep into the forest in search of medicinal herbs. After searching for a long time, he finally found the right plants. He carefully applied the herbal paste to Panchmukhi's wounds and sat beside the injured snake. After some time, Panchmukhi regained consciousness. He opened his eyes and saw Krishna sitting beside him, with herbal medicine covering his wounds. The five-headed snake was filled with gratitude. "You have saved my life, young one," Panchmukhi said. "I will never forget your kindness. Whenever you are in danger or in need, call my name—Panchmukhi—and I will come to your aid, no matter where you are." With these words, the snake disappeared into the depths of the forest. Krishna returned home that evening with his goats and sheep. At dinner, he excitedly told his parents the entire story of how he saved the five-headed snake. His parents listened with skepticism, thinking it was merely a child's imagination, but they did not scold him. Some days later, Krishna went to the forest as usual with his animals. He decided to bathe in the pond to cool off. While bathing, his foot suddenly became wedged between two rocks underwater. As he struggled to free himself, a massive crocodile emerged from the depths of the pond and began swimming toward him, ready to attack. Terrified, Krishna closed his eyes and desperately cried out: "Panchmukhi! Panchmukhi, please save me!" In an instant, Panchmukhi heard the call from deep within the forest. The five-headed snake rushed toward the pond. Just as the crocodile was about to strike Krishna, Panchmukhi appeared and positioned himself between the boy and the predator. A fierce battle erupted. Panchmukhi and the crocodile fought with incredible ferocity. The snake's five heads struck repeatedly, and after a tremendous struggle, Panchmukhi emerged victorious. The defeated crocodile retreated into the pond and swam away. Panchmukhi carefully helped Krishna out of the water and onto the pond's bank, while Krishna's goats and sheep watched the entire scene from a safe distance. As sunset approached, Panchmukhi said to Krishna, "My friend, I must leave now. I cannot go into your village because the people there will see me and become afraid. They may try to harm me. But know that I will always be here to protect you when you truly need me. Keep our bond a secret." With that, Panchmukhi slithered back into the forest. Krishna returned home, and his parents immediately noticed the injuries on his foot. They asked him what had happened. This time, Krishna told them everything—about his first encounter with Panchmukhi, how he had saved the snake, and how the snake had just saved his life from the crocodile. Seeing the evidence of the attack on their son, his parents finally believed his story. They understood that their son had a protector in the form of an extraordinary friend. His parents then said to him, "Krishna, you must never tell anyone in the village about Panchmukhi. Keep this friendship secret. It is for his protection and safety."
