Ever since I was a child, I’ve been fascinated by the idea of seeing the invisible biological world, so I consider myself incredibly lucky to have stumbled upon a series of 1850s photomicrographs by the French pioneer Auguste-Adolphe Bertsch.
His art, which functions as scientific illustration, is characterized by a distinct grain, organic textures, precise forms, and high-contrast monochrome tones. Thanks to the Recraft, I’ve been able to reimagine the digital realm through the aesthetic lens of these early photomicrographs, finally fulfilling a childhood curiosity.
My project serves as a perfect example of how we can view digital phenomena from an entirely new perspective. This, in essence, is art: where a meaningful reality gives rise to a unique creative expression.
