The best part of this website might be the page nobody is supposed to see. About 4 months ago, we launched the new website for STORY Design Amsterdam. STORY is all about giving homes personality, so we wanted the website to have some too. Including their 404 page. Naturally, I put the owner's dog on it. If you end up on the wrong page, you might as well enjoy it. But the fun details only work if the website itself does too. Before the launch, most of their website traffic came through Instagram. Today, around 60% comes from Google. And now we've taken the next step by adding a little shop, so people can buy their kitchen handles directly from the site. Next up: a great about us page; photoshoots are already planned. I don't design websites that often. But when I do, I don't want to create something that could belong to any business. It should feel like their business. Do you think I achieved that?

Yes. The split hero with kitchens on one side and furniture on the other, plus the real photography, feels specific to them.

Did the idea for the dog on the 404 page come from the original brand direction, or after the rest of the site was built?

To your question, yes. The outlined STORY wordmark and the Kitchens and Furniture split over real material photos make it read as one specific business, not a template. Adding a shop for kitchen handles is a smart next step.

Yes, it looks great. How did you get so many people to find the site through Google instead of Instagram?

The story behind the 404 page is a good reminder that brand personality can carry into the smaller parts of a website too. Your shift from Instagram-led traffic to around 60% from Google is interesting. Which content or site-structure changes do you think contributed most, and did organic visits grow in absolute numbers as well?

Giving homes and websites such a distinct personality is brilliant. The interior design focus and the creative attention to detail (even the 404 page!) look amazing! 🔥

A 404 page with personality is such a nice touch. Most people never even think about that page.

a 404 page getting that much care says more about the studio than most of the homepage would
