How the Framer CMS Changed the way I think about creating websites & templates.
People buying templates probably don’t know how to use Framer that well or don’t want to learn. Their business is using templates to make money.
It's nice to just design.
You create some cool home page with nice animations and people love it.
But when someone buys the template and tries to edit the content is it easy for them?
Remember they may not want or know how to use Framer.
You can be certain they are not at your level.
So what if everything that needed to be was connected to the CMS?
Well this makes things a nightmare to build, You can’t just bang stuff on the canvas and make it look cool.
You have to have a deeper think about how this will work in the CMS.
What collection will it be in. How do I get that to show on this page.
And most importantly how can I make this easy for the user and what problems am I solving for them.
This takes template building to another level. And at the same time delivers a product with a much higher value.
Imagine you work for an agency, buy a template and all you have to do is edit some CSV files.
You could even get AI to do most of this for you.
Export and re import after editing and everything goes in the right place without touching the canvas. A website could be live for a client in a few hours. How much is this worth to an agency.
Even website builds direct for clients will benefit the same. Either you or the client can easily change and update any content on the website.
And why not your own website.
I understand there are some limitations with the CMS but I am sure Framer will be working to add more feature and make it much more powerful.
For an example I created this club night and event website template. It has 8 CMS Collections working together with filters to display the right info on the right page. Imagine 1 viewport pulling data from 3 CMS collections. Or go check it out here.
