PLASMA RENT | An Original Cantina Micro-Series Pilot
What I built and why: I created "Plasma Rent" to explore an aggressive, timely satire of modern housing precarity and the longevity obsession of the ultra-wealthy. In a near-future metropolis where tech oligarchs purchase synthetic youth directly from the veins of indebted youth, 21-year-old Toby survives by selling his plasma to pay compounding algorithmic rent hikes.
When an automated biometric lockout threatens immediate street eviction, Toby risks an unauthorized deep marrow procedure on the black market. The procedure triggers a dormant cellular mutation in his blood that immediately contaminates his billionaire recipient, Marcus Sterling, during a live infusion. Within seconds, Toby transforms from an expendable tenant into the sole human holding the antidote to an oligarch's life.
The Protagonist: Toby (Donor #8841-T) is not a passive victim. He is pragmatic, unyielding, and cold-blooded under pressure. He embodies a generation that turns systemic exploitation back against the ruling class.
Where the Series Goes Next:
Episode 2 (The Sovereign Hostage): Sterling’s private security locates Toby, but biometrics confirm that harming or force-extracting him degrades the fragile antibody. Toby completely inverts the power dynamic, dictating his own survival terms from hiding.
Episode 3 (The Oligarchical Contagion): Sterling's peer network of executives discovers Toby’s contaminated batch was cross-distributed into the regional private longevity reserve. Panicked billionaires begin covertly bidding against each other for exclusive access to Toby’s blood.
Episode 4–5 (The Biological Union): Toby teams up with Elena and underground clinician Dr. Vance to organize exploited donors across the city. The series evolves from individual survival into a bio-economic resistance, turning the working class's blood into the ultimate currency and weapon against the corporate medical grid.
