Overview
Innovate Health IT, a 500-bed acute NHS Trust, faced significant challenges with its aging on-premises EHR system, including rising costs, frequent outages, limited scalability, and poor interoperability, which hindered operational resilience and clinical safety. The candidate was tasked with evaluating a strategic transition to a modern cloud-based EHR platform to address these critical issues and align with national digital transformation mandates.
What I did
Developed a detailed 5-year financial model, including cash flow projections, Net Present Value (NPV), and Return on Investment (ROI), explicitly adhering to HM Treasury Green Book guidance for public sector projects.
Conducted a comprehensive options appraisal comparing current on-premises, cloud-based, and hybrid EHR solutions, detailing their respective pros and cons.
Performed a sensitivity analysis on key financial variables (subscription cost, migration cost, productivity gains) to assess financial viability under different scenarios.
Identified and mitigated key risks associated with cloud EHR transition through a structured RAID log, proposing specific mitigation strategies.
Designed a benefits realization plan, outlining KPIs, ownership, governance, and reporting cadences for tracking both cashable and non-cashable benefits.
Authored a strategic business case highlighting national NHS mandates (EPR 2025, Shared Care Record, DSPT, Cyber Strategy) and their influence on the recommendation.

Financial tools for founders usually feel either cold (dashboards) or intimidating (accounting software).
For Ledger, we borrowed from old-world institutional finance instead — serif type, oil-painting textures, classical architecture — so an AI CFO feels like real authority, not another app.
