Backlighting can transform a simple portrait into something striking.

In this piece, I combined graphite and charcoal to capture the subject’s silhouette and intricate details. I focused on a dramatic play of light and shadow, with the light source coming from behind the subject. Graphite allowed me to add fine details and smooth gradients, while charcoal added depth and bold contrast. My goal was to balance softness and intensity, drawing attention to the illuminated areas and bringing the portrait to life.
