SQL report repair — fictional demonstration
An original fictional demonstration of a report total inflated by an item-level join. The query ran but reported $620 instead of the independently checked $390. The repair aggregates paid orders before joining to the customer list, preserving customers without paid orders and excluding cancelled orders. Checks covered known totals, equal-value orders, no-order customers and orders without items. The checked result is five paid orders and $390 revenue. This is a demonstration using fictional data, not paid client work.
