Three things I tell clients NOT to automate with AI (and I sell AI automation):
1. Anything where a wrong answer costs more than the labour you'd save. Payroll tax slabs, for example — I built a payroll system and the model doesn't touch the withholding math. Deterministic code does.
2. A process nobody has written down yet. If you can't describe the steps, the agent will happily invent them.
3. The 5% of cases that are weird. Automate the 95%, route the weird ones to a human, and log why they were weird. Six months later, that log is your product roadmap.
The best automation audits I've done ended with "leave this one alone." Curious what others would add to the list.
