From Fur Trade to Global Trade
Inspired by George Caleb Bingham’s 1845 painting, “Fur Traders Descending the Missouri,” this short film imagines an alternate history: what if the fur-trading route shown in the painting never faded away?
The film begins inside Bingham’s quiet river scene. The painted figures come alive: a French trader, his son, and the small black bear cub travel toward a riverside settlement carrying their cargo of furs.
As the camera rises above the village, time accelerates. The settlement expands into a river town, then an industrial port, and finally a modern global shipping hub. The original canoe evolves through the centuries into a container ship, while the painting becomes the company’s emblem on its steel hull.
The final transformation returns the viewer to Bingham’s original canvas, revealing that the entire imagined future emerged from one still museum image.
Created in FLORA using a multi-step generative video workflow, reference-led character continuity, cinematic camera movement, scene extensions, and a historical-to-modern aerial time-lapse transformation.

For the Recraft × Contra Archive Style Challenge, I explored a fictional luxury fashion and tech line titled 'Regal Modernity'. I combined 18th-century British silk embroidery, royal portrait costumes, and 1790s fashion plate etchings from The Metropolitan Museum of Art into a custom Recraft V4 Style. Using this historic archive aesthetic, I rendered everyday modern tech and streetwear items such as high-top sneakers, smartwatches, and e-scooters that historical artists could never have imagined. The resulting collision bridges centuries of craftsmanship with modern innovation.
