For the first time in a while, my calendar looks unusually empty.

My last software engineering contract has come to an end, and instead of immediately jumping into the next role, I’ve been thinking about the kind of work I actually want to do next.

I’ve realized that some of my favorite projects weren’t necessarily the biggest ones.

They were the ones where there was a real problem to solve.

A backend struggling as the product grew. An API that needed to be redesigned. A feature everyone wanted but nobody had time to build. An existing codebase that needed someone to understand it and move it forward.

That’s where I tend to do my best work.

My background is mainly in Python — Django, FastAPI and Flask — along with full-stack development, databases, cloud infrastructure, integrations and AI-powered features.

So, for the next chapter, I’m opening myself up to freelance and contract projects.

What is the biggest challenge you’re facing in freelancing right now?

Even after doing this for years, I feel like there is always something new to figure out.

For some, it might be finding consistent clients. For others, it could be pricing their work, managing time, staying motivated, handling multiple projects, or building a small team.

Sometimes the biggest challenge is not even the work itself, it’s everything around it.
