TOON hype crashed in my real AI workflow.
Tried integrating TOON for AI automation - everyone's flashing "30-60% token savings" benchmarks, but it crumbled on deeply nested objects with repeated keys.
Turned into pure YAML hell: whitespace-sensitive, brittle, one stray space from total chaos. Exactly where production workflows live, not toy demos.
It straight-up broke my automations. Deeper nesting + template string spacing?
AI misunderstood the structure entirely:
- Misinterpreted hierarchy levels
- same key, different depths = disaster
Token wins sound great on slides, but fragile configs, nightmare debugging, and editor punishment? Nah.
TOON's no JSON killer - it's a reminder that formats ignoring nested reality are overhyped. Stick to battle-tested tools until they fix the basics.
