A stronger self-evaluation does not need bigger adjectives. It needs clearer evidence.
Fictional example:
Before: “I drove exceptional operational efficiency.”
After: “I created an intake checklist after requests repeatedly arrived without enough information. It gave requesters a clearer starting point. I did not formally measure time saved.”
Try this structure: the problem → your action → the observable result → the limits of your evidence.
If you use AI to edit, ask it to preserve those limits—not invent impressive numbers. Use only employer-approved tools and leave confidential details out.

I use AI on every project. I still don't trust it. Neither should you.
Here's the thing nobody's saying out loud. Fast Company and AIGA just ran a survey of freelance designers: 62% use AI often or sometimes, mostly for brainstorming and copywriting. Same survey, same designers: 70% believe it's making creative work worse. 📊
We're not confused. We're right on both counts.
AI is a tool. It's not a designer.
It doesn't know why the client hates blue. It doesn't know the CEO's ego is the real brief. It doesn't know that "just make it pop" actually means "I'm scared and need reassurance."
That's the job. That's what they're paying for.
The freelancers who win the next few years won't be the ones avoiding AI and they won't be the ones handing it their taste. They'll be the ones using it as a faster pencil, while getting more opinionated, not less.

You don’t need to diagnose the problem before bringing it to me.
A client booked 30 minutes with me for something that technically worked, but didn’t feel sustainable.
❌ We didn’t start with templates.
❌ We didn’t start with automations.
❌ We worked backwards from the problem.
What’s actually getting in the way?
What needs structure?
Who needs access to what?
What should stay manual?
What, if anything, is worth automating?
The goal wasn’t to fit as many recommendations as possible into 30 minutes.
It was to make sure we were solving the right problem first.
Her review afterwards mentioned something I particularly appreciated: that I took the time to understand both the business and the broader context before recommending what should happen next.
That’s probably the simplest explanation of how I work.
Sometimes the answer is a better workflow.
Sometimes it’s clearer ownership.
Sometimes it’s automation.
Sometimes the process shouldn’t exist in the first place.
