Cross Check Consultancy, Building a Platform People Actually Trust
Chantal Cross came to me with something bigger than a typical website project. She'd spent over 20 years building expertise in HR and anti-harassment work, and now she was launching Safe Space Collective, a platform to help UK employers actually meet their legal duty to prevent workplace harassment. This wasn't a product page. It was her life's work, distilled into something employers needed to trust immediately.
That changed how I approached the whole build.
The subject matter is serious: workplace harassment, legal compliance, tribunal costs, real risk to real people. My first instinct was to keep the design out of the way of the message. No flashy animations, no clutter, no design choices competing for attention. Just clean layout, clear hierarchy, and enough white space that someone reading about a £54k average tribunal award could actually focus on the words in front of them.
I built the site in WordPress with Elementor, structured around 11+ industry sectors, education, healthcare, legal, public sector, and more, because Chantal needed every visitor, regardless of their field, to immediately see "this applies to me." Underneath the simple surface, I set up automated email workflows so every waitlist sign-up was captured and nurtured without Chantal having to manually follow up with anyone. She's running a consultancy, not a marketing department, so the site needed to work quietly in the background while she focused on the actual expertise.
The results spoke for themselves: a 43% conversion ratio from visitors to waitlist sign-ups, and 29+ organizational leaders joined within the launch window, all without a single manual follow-up email.
Why I kept it simple and clean: When you're asking someone to trust you with something as sensitive as workplace harassment prevention, the website can't get in the way. Every extra animation, every busy section, every unnecessary design flourish is one more thing pulling attention away from the message. I wanted Chantal's expertise and the seriousness of what she's building to be the only thing the visitor really notices, not the website itself. A clean, calm design doesn't just look professional, it signals "this is a place you can trust with something serious." That's exactly what Safe Space Collective needed to say without saying it.
