Portfolio website for Daniel Cubas — designer, photographer & visual director
Designed and built a static portfolio site for Daniel Cubas, a Spanish visual director working across photography, graphic design, and short film. The site presents his work in three sections — Photography, Design, and Short Films — through an editorial, image-first layout that lets the work speak without competing UI noise.
What I did:
Developed a custom design system from scratch, derived from an existing editorial flyer the client had, extending its typographic and layout logic into a full responsive site
Built the site with plain HTML/CSS/JS — no framework, no build step, no dependencies — so it loads instantly and is trivially cheap to host (GitHub Pages)
Designed a content pipeline where the client adds new projects by dropping images and a markdown file into a folder, with zero code editing required
Established strict visual rules: a monochrome palette (black/bone) with a single accent color used in exactly three places, two-typeface system (Oswald for headlines, Inter for body), no icons, no rounded corners, no shadows — treating photography itself as the primary material rather than illustration
Handled project detail pages with embedded video support (Google Drive) for the short film section, and a responsive image-grid home page
Result: A fast, maintenance-free portfolio that the client can update independently, with a distinct, disciplined visual identity that avoids generic "agency" design clichés.
