Starting from the fate of newspapers and magazines, it’s easy to assume that printing is on its way to being dead. Without any real plan, I began paying attention to the objects around me. Turns out almost everything we use daily is bought in some kind of packaging, an entity that has never truly separated itself from the world of print design. My assumption collapsed right there. At least before the AI storm hit the world of graphic design.
Today, AI can already create characters and mascots with ideas that seem to come out of nowhere. Color composition and texture can be arranged so precisely without us ever knowing how it was trained. If one day it can create layers and read a client’s mind, then the profession of graphic design might disappear next week.
If we use a binary scenario, then only two possibilities emerge: AI becomes increasingly favored, or it doesn’t. If all the narratives above continue, the first scenario becomes more likely. Conversely, the second scenario will take place if the AI bubble bursts, similar to the collapse of dot‑com businesses in the early 2000s.
