AI Isn't Replacing Human Expertise. It's Changing How We Deliver It.
Recently, I had an experience with a client that made me reflect on how differently people view artificial intelligence in professional settings.
As someone who works in education, writing, and content development, I've learned that providing quality feedback requires more than simply identifying mistakes. It involves understanding the individual's goals, reviewing assignment requirements, evaluating the quality of the work, and offering meaningful guidance.
That's where I believe AI can be a valuable tool.
I occasionally use AI to support certain aspects of my review process, such as identifying areas that may need additional attention or improving workflow efficiency. However, that doesn't mean human judgment disappears from the equation.
I still believe in personally reviewing work, evaluating writing prompts and rubrics, and ensuring that the feedback I provide is thoughtful, accurate, and relevant.
More importantly, I believe in maintaining professional integrity.
One thing I've started noticing is that expectations surrounding AI are becoming increasingly complicated. Many people want immediate results, detailed explanations, and personalized attention, yet some remain uncomfortable with professionals using AI to support their work.
And that raises an interesting question:
Are we focusing too much on whether AI was used and not enough on how responsibly it was used?
I recently encountered a situation that reinforced this question. After reflecting on the interaction, I realized that there was a difference between providing someone with an immediate answer and helping them understand how to arrive at that answer independently.
In education, that distinction matters.
My goal has never been to simply provide answers. It's to encourage critical thinking, understanding, and independent learning.
I believe the same principle applies to businesses, customer support professionals, writers, and creative specialists.
AI can help streamline certain processes, but it shouldn't replace accountability, professional expertise, or genuine human interaction.
The future of AI shouldn't be about choosing between humans and technology. It should be about learning how to use technology responsibly while preserving the value of human expertise.
This is also one of the themes I explore in my eBook, Catch Up… or Get Left Behind: A Beginner's Guide to Navigating ChatGPT, where I discuss understanding AI and using it effectively.

I'm curious to hear your thoughts:
Would you feel comfortable knowing that a professional used AI to assist with your work, as long as they personally reviewed the results and maintained responsibility for the final outcome?
