2016 Nostalgia
Around 2016, the ’80s Modern Retro / Memphis-inspired aesthetic came back hard. Bold colors, playful geometry, squiggles, dots, and anti-minimalist layouts appeared everywhere—from branding and packaging to web and social visuals.
At the time, it felt like a reaction against flat design and neutral palettes. Memphis wasn’t subtle—and that was the point. It brought humor, optimism, and intentional chaos back into design, especially in digital spaces that were starting to feel too clean and corporate.
And the bigger question:
Is 2026 Memphis time—or are we not brave enough yet? 👀

I have always had a strong appreciation for old things, especially music. I'm a huge fan of songs from the 80s and 90s—they truly are amazing and deeply resonate with me.
My design work goes beyond just UI design. Listening to these songs evokes nostalgic moments and helps me reminisce.
A photo viewer inspired by the classic 3D View‑Master.
I wanted to rethink how we look back at our memories on our phones, and bring back that slow, nostalgic feeling instead of the usual quick swipe through.
So I attempted to mimic the View‑Master lever, you press and pull the circle in either direction to switch images. Drag it right to move forward, drag it left to go back. I added the ability to move backwards (which you can’t do on the real thing) because it just felt more natural to give people that freedom. For the UI, I designed it to be clear and simple whilst allowing the image the user is viewing to be the main focus.

I almost didn’t build this.
I had spent 20+ hours on a completely different idea. Then I saw similar concepts in the community and had to scrap it. Reset.
While revisiting the guidelines, one word stayed with me: Culture.
I live in India, home to one of the most joyful and chaotic festivals in the world — Holi. On this day, strangers throw colors freely. White clothes become walking paintings.
That spirit inspired RangBarse.
It’s a multiplayer arena where up to 7 players enter a white room, choose a unique color, and throw water balloons at each other. Every splash stays, slowly transforming the space into a burst of color. Last player standing wins.
Built entirely in Figma Make within 24 hours, RangBarse turns cultural chaos into a competitive digital experience. 🌈
