A year ago I started building Smoothy, a desktop app that helps video editors work faster in Premiere Pro and now DaVinci Resolve too.
I am a video editor, not a developer. I knew almost nothing about building software when I started. I just kept improving it, on and off, alongside my client work.
At one point I almost gave up. Instead, I made most of its tools free and open source this year.
Since then, 279 editors have installed it and 192 of them actively use it. They have used its tools more than 1,400 times, mostly for multicam editing, captions and silence removal. These are small numbers, but they are real people using something I built from nothing, and I am proud of that.
Building Smoothy also made me a faster editor. I use it every day for my own client work.
Next, I am working on new features that I hope editors will find worth paying for, to cover development costs. Every feature that exists today will stay free forever. If you edit in Premiere or DaVinci, try it free: smoothyedit.com
