A business owner shared a Shopify website she built with AI assistance and I couldn't resist doing a quick audit.
The site looked fancy, but..
The homepage was slow
No FAQs or reviews on the product page,
Important policy pages were still templates,
The brand contact email was a Gmail etc..
E-commerce is not so forgiving.
It's not just about what looks good. It's about what looks premium, builds trust, and actually helps people buy.

Absolutely agree. AI can speed up the Shopify development process, but a successful e-commerce store needs more than just a good-looking design. Performance, trust, UX, policies, and conversion-focused details all matter. Great audit! 👏

The Gmail-as-contact-email one is underrated as a trust signal. We see it a lot on AI-generated stores too, along with policy pages left at the theme's placeholder text (shipping/returns still saying "Sample Shipping Policy"). Both take five minutes to fix and neither shows up...
Do you also use Lighthouse as an additional audit? I find it helpful for spotting performance, accessibility, and SEO issues, especially on mobile. I’d compare those results with real user performance data and manually test key flows like navigation, add to cart, and checkout, since an automated audit won’t catch everything.

This post was a snippet, as I do look out for alot more on a website audit, but I'll like to add Lighthouse check to my workflow as well.
Lighthouse is a tool directly integrated into Google Chrome DevTools, so you don’t need to install anything separately. I added a screenshot here so you can see exactly where to find it. I hope it helps.

When exploring Shopify store design, I like thinking about how the brand, product category, and customer journey should influence the final layout.
For example:
→ A home decor store needs strong visual presentation and an editorial feel.
→ A coffee equipment store needs clear categories and product information that helps customers compare options.
→ A fitness store needs organized collections and a straightforward path to the right equipment.
The goal isn't to use the same design for every business.
It's to understand what each store needs and build an experience around it.

I saw a Dog is Human ad in my Facebook feed.
"Itchy dog?"
So I clicked.
And I landed on a page that opens with "DM-01™ Daily Multivitamin."
The ad sold itch relief. The page sold a multivitamin.
So I started digging.
According to traffic tools (estimates, not their real numbers):
1.22M visits a month
$3M–$6M estimated monthly revenue
477 active Meta ads
6,000+ ads pointing to one product page
That's a lot of paid clicks landing on pages that don't match the ad.
At that scale, even small leaks cost real money.
So I couldn't stop myself.
Here are the 9 changes I'd make if I were their CRO:
One offer in the announcement bar. Not 3 rotating messages nobody reads.
Press logos on image #1. "As seen in The Dodo" before they scroll.
The Itch-Free Guarantee, twice. On the image and right under the CTA.
Name it for the problem. "Itch & Skin Daily Multivitamin" + "For dogs who scratch, lick their paws or get hot spots."
Lead with the best proof. "97% saw less itching in 3–6 months." It was hidden on gallery image #4.
One price line. $36.98, $58 crossed out, save 36%. No math.
A subscription card that says what you get. 15% off, 25% off today, free shipping, easy cancel.
A CTA you can actually read. White on pale blue was ~1.9:1 contrast. Navy, with the price inside.
Guarantee + shipping right under the button. That's where the doubt shows up.
I wouldn't ship all 9 at once.
I'd A/B test them in order, starting with the headline and the button, and judge each one on revenue per visitor.
From what I've seen on pages like this, I'd expect a real lift. But the test decides, not me.
The ad says itch. The page should say itch.
