Most "AI features" clients ask for aren't hard to build. What's hard is making them not feel bolted on.
I've seen plenty of products where the AI feature works in a demo, then breaks the moment real users touch it — costs spiral, responses drift off-topic, or the UI just feels like a chatbot glued onto the side of an app that was never designed for it.
The real work is upstream of the AI call itself: picking the right retrieval approach, capping cost with caching and rate limits, and designing the UI so the feature feels native — not like three tools duct-taped together.
That's the gap I fill. I'm frontend-first, but I own the backend and AI wiring too — so what you get is one coherent product, not a patchwork of contractors who never talked to each other.
