The Moment After, Three Museum Paintings, Continued
Three of the Met's most famous paintings, each pushed one moment past where the canvas actually ends.
Every painting freezes a single instant, the artist chose exactly where to stop. This piece asks what happens one moment later.
Three open-access works from the Met, each opened on its actual composition, held long enough that the source is unmistakable, then continued as live-action: the boat reaches shore, the sword-strike's aftermath plays out, the cup is finished, the boy is pulled from the water, the riddle gets answered.
Where history or myth actually recorded that next moment, I used it: Washington's real watchword for the march on Trenton, Socrates's actual last words to Crito from Plato's Phaedo Where nothing was recorded — the battle at Vercellae, the dialogue is invented but grounded in the documented outcome of each event. Nothing is pushed past what the original paintings themselves depict; these are dramatic, sometimes brutal works, but none of them traffic in graphic gore, and neither does this.
Structured as a short film: each painting shown with its own title card and brief context, then its continuation.
