Claude Code just crossed an important line. The conversation is no longer: “Can an AI agent write production code?” We already know it can. The new question is: What happens when the agent becomes part of the operating system? Long-running autonomy. Infrastructure access. Tool execution. Compliance visibility. Multiple agents working across the same environment. That changes the engineering problem. The bottleneck starts moving from agent intelligence to agent continuity. What happens when an agent dies mid-mission? Who owns the work? Where is the last trusted state? Can another agent resume without repeating actions? Can you prove what happened before the handoff? Can the system fail closed instead of improvising? Coding agents are getting very good, very quickly. The next infrastructure layer is going to be about keeping autonomous systems persistent, recoverable, coordinated, and governed. That’s the signal I’m watching. And it’s exactly the problem space we’re building Pearl OS around.
