Nobody tells new designers how often the canvas stays blank. Last week I opened Canva, picked a size, and stared at it for almost an hour. Everything I tried looked average. I deleted it. Started again. Deleted that too. My first thought was that maybe I'm not good enough for this. Then I noticed something. The blank feeling doesn't show up when I lack skill. It shows up when I expect my first version to look beautiful. So I changed the goal. I stopped trying to make it good and just made it exist. Messy layout, wrong fonts, clashing colors. Then I fixed one thing at a time. Around the fourth fix, it started to look like a real design. What's helping me beat creative block as a beginner: → Save designs I admire and ask what exactly I like (spacing, color, contrast?) → Give myself 20 minutes to make a bad version on purpose. → Walk away. A short break does more than another hour of staring. I used to think experienced designers never get stuck. Now I think they just know how to start anyway. If you're new to graphic design and feel blocked sometimes, you're not behind. You're learning. What do you do when a design just won't come together? I'd love to hear your trick.
