Lately I've been working on two personal Python projects that are quite different from each other, but both have been helping me improve my programming skills in very practical ways.
The first one is a space strategy game.
I'm building it around physics and orbital mechanics rather than traditional RTS mechanics. The idea is to create a strategy game where movement and positioning actually matter. Ships will have to deal with trajectories, velocity, acceleration, orbital movement, and eventually different types of propulsion and weapons.
The project started from a physics simulator I was building in Python. I wanted to understand the mathematics behind motion and gradually turned that simulator into the foundation for a potential strategy game.
The goal is a technical, low-graphics RTS where understanding the physics can give you an advantage. Instead of simply clicking on a destination and watching a ship move there, players could plan maneuvers, use orbital trajectories, intercept other ships, and make tactical decisions based on their available resources and movement capabilities.
The second project is completely different: a POS system for small businesses.
I started building it because my grandmother works in a small grocery store and I wanted to create something that could actually help with the day-to-day process of selling products.
The application is built with Python, SQLite, Streamlit, and Pandas. It includes product and inventory management, sales, analytics, barcode support, and other tools designed around the needs of a small business.
I'm also working on features such as reading supplier tickets to help add products to the inventory and generating printable PDF receipts.
What I find interesting about these two projects is that they force me to solve very different problems.
The space game makes me think about physics, mathematics, simulation, optimization, and game architecture.
The POS makes me think about databases, data management, user interfaces, business logic, file processing, and building software that someone could actually use in their daily work.
Alongside these projects, I'm offering custom Python automation scripts and data cleaning services.
My goal isn't just to write code for the sake of writing code. I want to keep building projects that force me to learn something new and eventually turn those skills into useful software and freelance work.
