Creating Sandcastle Design System:
- On The Beach was scaling quickly with four product teams building in parallel, with no shared foundation between them.
- A design system had been wanted for a while, but kept getting delayed behind other deadlines.
- Working together with another senior product designer, and in close collaboration with the product team and developers, we took on building the system from the ground up alongside live product work rather than pausing everything else.
- Together we ran the component audit, defined the component library, and established the guidelines, naming conventions, and documentation that would keep design and code aligned as the product scaled.
