Byomkesh Bakshi, created by Bengali author Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay, is a self-proclaimed Satyanweshi—a seeker of truth.
I tried to recreate a scene from one of his most famous cases, “Pother Kanta” (The Thorn on the Path). In 1932 Calcutta, wealthy, childless men are mysteriously killed in crowded streets. There is no gunshot, no witness, and no visible weapon—only a gramophone needle piercing the heart.
The killer’s weapon is a modified bicycle bell. When the rider rings it, the bell masks the sound as it fires the needle. The cyclist then disappears into the crowd, leaving behind a perfect mystery.
