I've integrated payments with both Razorpay and Paddle, and they solve different problems. Picking the right one early saves a lot of rework.
Razorpay: for customers in India. I used it on a course platform. It handles UPI, cards and net banking, so Indian customers can pay the way they already do.
Paddle: for customers worldwide. I used it on a mobile app with free and paid plans. Paddle acts as the seller on your behalf, so it handles global taxes like VAT for you, which is a big headache to manage alone.
What I set up in both:
Checkout that works on web and inside the app flow
Webhooks, so access turns on right after payment and off when a plan ends
Signature checks on every webhook, so nobody can fake a "payment successful" request
Payment status confirmed on the backend, not trusted from the frontend
Free and paid plans, with the right features unlocked for each
Automatic enrollment after payment, so nobody adds users by hand
