Faculty do not open an LMS to browse. They open it because something is due, something needs grading, or a course is sitting unpublished the day before term starts. The pattern I inherited buried drafts behind a tab and put the review queue two clicks deep. Both were the things people came for.
My job was the faculty dashboard, but not only that. It was one of four surfaces on a shared system, taking all of it from zero to MVP alongside the student app, vendor system, and admin CMS, and building the design system underneath so the four stayed consistent as they grew.
Published and unpublished courses now share one view. Roughly half of what a teacher touches in a week is still a draft, and hiding drafts meant they got forgotten. The Publish button sits on the card cover, one click from where the decision actually gets made. The review queue stays pinned with points and due timestamps attached. Batch and semester filters sit inline, because faculty teach across several at once and were otherwise reopening the page just to switch context. I ran usability cycles from mid build through handoff instead of saving testing for the end, and structured the component libraries for developer handoff rather than for the Figma file looking tidy.
Four products ended up live on one design language, web and mobile, fully designed and handed to development. The dev team built on the system rather than around it, which is the part I am most pleased about.
Design lead at Unison Flow, working with two designers I mentored through the build. Client branding is replaced throughout. Happy to walk through the real thing on a call.
