Ever since I was a teenager, I've had this habit of directing imaginary music videos in my head whenever I listened to a song I loved. One of my long-standing creative dreams has been to direct one for real.
Since that opportunity hasn't come along yet, I decided to practice by exploring character development and environment design through a series of stills inspired by one of my favorite songs by BUMP OF CHICKEN (Here's the song if you're curious)
This was purely a personal exercise, and to be honest, the reference images did a lot of the heavy lifting. Still, there's something really addictive about giving visual form to these ideas.
For this project, I started by creating simple character sheets in Figma, then iterated on each element separately—body proportions, facial expressions, wardrobe, and environments—before bringing everything together. I think the faces still need some work, but I'll live with them for now. 😅
Most of the images were generated with Seedream 5 Pro, which I found very effective at maintaining character consistency while achieving a cinematic look.
