In 1640 and 1642 Ulisse Aldrovandi published his books of serpents, dragons and monsters, solemn woodcuts of creatures he knew only from rumours, I found the Smithsonian copies on the Biodiversity Heritage Library, cropped ten of his beasts and built a Recraft Style from them.
Monstrorum Historia MMXXVI keeps his poses, his Latin captions and even his page numbers, and fills the book with the marvels we actually live with now: a sphynx cat in a sweater riding a robot vacuum, a dog pushed in a baby stroller, a bearded dragon basking on a laptop under a desk lamp, an inflatable unicorn with a fish tail.
I chained two Styles: the black-and-white generations were hand-coloured and became a second Style, like the deluxe coloured copies of the 1640s, and every plate is printed onto a real blank leaf scanned from the 1642 copy.
Each monster has an eyewitness, from Kyiv, Lviv, Odesa and Poltava. Same book, 384 years later, the monsters moved in with us.
