“Welcome to leadership — we’re all making it up.” I remember telling my former boss, “I feel like I have no idea what I’m doing. Like I’m just making it up every day.” He smiled and said, “Welcome to leadership. We all feel like we’re making it up every day.” This week, I saw a post from Steven Bartlett on LinkedIn that stuck with me: “The people you admire aren’t as smart as you think they are.” That hit me. I’ve realized imposter syndrome isn’t something to get rid of. It’s often what pushes me to grow. The goal isn’t to eliminate self-doubt. The goal is to keep moving forward despite it. If you’ve ever felt like you were making it up as you went — what helped you keep going?

@Michael Martin This is not spoken of a lot as it should, but it is so true. The more leaders I meet, the more I realize none of us have it all figured out, we’re just figuring it out as we go and trying to do our best. Thanks for normalizing that feeling.

@Olayinka Adeyefa Exactly! We’re all learning as we go, and it’s good to remind each other that no one has it perfectly figured out.
