The dark web's AI arms race just hit a stalemate — and nobody's talking about the part that matters most.

Criminal operators now run AI to manage OPSEC in real time: adaptive key rotation, GAN-generated traffic noise, fully maintained synthetic personas. CTI teams and law enforcement run AI attribution engines to tear those personas apart linguistic fingerprinting, social graph reconstruction, behavioral tells.

Neither side is winning. Both are burning enormous compute for marginal gains, because they're increasingly built on the same underlying models every breakthrough in generation improves detection too.

The part I think is underappreciated: the marketplaces sitting between these two sides have automated as well. Forum moderation, ticket resolution, vendor reputation management all AI now. When both the complaint and the rebuttal to it can be machine-generated, the trust signal dark web commerce has run on for a decade stops meaning anything.
