One of the joys of being a founder or Product Designer is seeing people convertttt.
But chasing conversions can also become a trap… (Follow me🫴🏽)
I was in a conversation recently where someone mentioned that a website was getting traffic, but people weren’t converting.
And almost immediately, the conversation moved to what needed to change on the website.
But I kept thinking, how do we even know the website is the problem?
Sometimes, we’re so quick to suggest solutions that we haven’t properly understood the problem.
Something isn’t converting? Change the website. Users aren’t completing a flow? Redesign the interface.
But what does the data say? Where exactly are users dropping off? Are we even attracting the right audience? What are users trying to achieve?
I think one of the most important things we can do as Product Designers is learn to question assumptions, including our own.
The problem isn’t what everyone thinks it is most times.
And redesigning something without understanding why it’s failing might just leave you with a prettier version of the same problem.
📌A good solution to the wrong problem is still the wrong solution.
