What I Built
I built Glow & Grace, a self-service booking website for a solo, home-based nail studio in DHA Phase 5, Karachi. Clients can view services and prices, pick an open time slot, and get instantly confirmed — no messages exchanged with the owner. The owner has a simple dashboard where every booking appears automatically, along with deposit status, so there's no manual confirming or texting required.
Why I Built It
Solo, appointment-based businesses like small nail studios, salons, and home-based service providers often run entirely on WhatsApp. The owner is doing the client's nails with one hand and replying to booking messages with the other — checking availability, confirming times, and texting reminders, all manually. This doesn't scale, wastes hours every week, and leads to double-bookings or missed messages. I wanted to solve the actual bottleneck: turning "can I book with you?" into "you're booked" without the owner lifting a finger, while also addressing the no-show problem with a small deposit built into the booking flow.

I love the color style
I believe the concept of a "trial edit or project" exists as a complete logical fallacy. Think about this- in the hopes of finding the best fit for the job, you shortlist the best editors and production professionals you can find and offer them a beyond discounted rate (or sometimes no money at all) to assess the quality of their work. You're asking someone to produce their best work with little to no incentive and with a budget that doesn't allow them to dedicate their full focus on it.
I don't know of any industry outside of the creative industry that allows this as a common business practice. This is not the industry where resumes matter. Only portfolios and I guess customer reviews hold any weight. If my portfolio isn't enough proof that I'm good at what I do, no trial project will ever be worth the time.
That's my soapbox for the day. Think i'll head down to my local bakeries and see if they'll let me have a trial cookie while I wave a carrot in their face about me potentially buying a full priced cookie from them in the future, but only if I like it better than all of the other bakeries in the area. 😉
The bakery analogy should honestly be pinned somewhere every client can see it. I'll push back slightly though, paid discovery calls or small paid pilots seem to work fine in consulting without anyone calling it exploitative. Is it the unpaid part that bothers you most, or the scale of work being asked for on spec?
I built The Quiet Chair, a booking experience for a fictional single-chair hair studio in Baner, Pune, run by a solo stylist named Mira.
Mira’s problem is simple: every booking message interrupts an appointment. Checking availability, confirming times, and handling changes take attention away from the customer in her chair.
The app lets customers choose a service, see available times, and receive an immediate booking confirmation. Availability accounts for opening hours, lunch breaks, existing appointments, and cleanup time. Customers can request a quiet appointment and use a secure link to reschedule or cancel, with online changes closing four hours before their appointment.
Mira has a protected owner workspace to view her daily agenda, check customer preferences, manage appointments, and block personal time.
I built it to turn “Can I book with you?” into “You’re booked” without needing a reply from the owner—and to make later changes just as straightforward. The result is fewer messages, fewer manual calendar checks, and more time for Mira to focus on her clients. @Lovable
