Rummaging through The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s archive, I came across the titular young aristocrat in Portrait of a Young Man by Agnolo Bronzino, his severe yet elegant stare inviting me to this week’s poetry club with the boys. I used Recraft to reimagine the painting’s circumstances, following the evening’s event from the face mask and first martini to the final whiskey before the rideshare arrives—with discussion of Renaissance poetry in between. Bronzino’s structural yet performative style remains, but the blue glow of the modern world intrudes, reshaping his subjects’ social atmosphere and interactions. It’s as if these are the portraits of the night that the young man chose to share with his followers.
