Let’s stop sugarcoating the truth about the current freelance landscape.

Platforms like Upwork, Fiverr, and Freelancer were built to bridge the gap between talent and opportunity. But today, they feel more like a digital toll plaza.

The Bitter Reality: First, they take a 20% commission from your hard-earned payment. Then, they demand "Connects" or "Pro" fees just for the right to send a proposal.

In any other industry, paying money to get an interview is called a bribe. In freelancing, they call it "Boosting."

If you don't pay this "Digital Bribery" (Connects/Memberships): 1. Your 15+ years of experience is hidden by an algorithm. 2. Your expert-level portfolio is buried under someone who simply paid to be on top. 3. The "Algorithm" prioritizes the platform's profit over the client’s success.

It’s a Trap: A new or struggling freelancer is forced to spend money they don't have, just to compete with those who can afford to "buy" the top spot. Since when did bidding become a gambling game?

I believe work should be awarded based on Logic, Strategy, and Merit—not on who has the deepest pockets to buy bidding points.

We need to support platforms like Contra that respect the professional and don’t tax your hustle before you’ve even earned a penny.

If my site was a mess, those 150 people would've left empty-handed. Most freelancers sleep on offline visibility But it means nothing if their website is broken. Your site works 24/7. Even when you're watching yourself on TV.
