Ethiopia, Redrawn I found a hand-coloured lithograph album from a 1840s European expedition, digitised by ETH-Bibliothek Zürich on e-rara under the Public Domain Mark, and trained a Recraft V4 Style on six of its figure and scene plates plus a palette sampled from their madder red, indigo, ochre and leaf-green washes. The album was made by outsiders looking in, so I turned its visual language around and pointed it at everyday life today. Ethiopia, Redrawn is nine plates in that 19th-century hand: a minibus conductor calling his route, a mobile-money kiosk, a crowd watching football under a tin roof, a courier at the gate, and a herder moving a nomad's portable house with a solar panel on top. The look is borrowed from the archive; the subjects and the point of view belong to the people now in the frame. Archive: Lefebvre et al., Voyage en Abyssinie, Album historique, ethnologique et archéologique (Paris, 1845-51). ETH-Bibliothek Zürich, e-rara, Public Domain Mark. Style references: pl. 28, 32, 36, 37, 38, 40. Social post: https://x.com/JimaaleYusuf/status/2114510414885384251
