When you wrap a component with "React.memo", props are compared using 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗻, not deep comparison.
This means:
- Primitive props (strings, numbers, booleans) are compared efficiently
- But objects, arrays, and functions will 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 unless they’re memoized
So if you’re passing objects or functions to a memoized component, pair "React.memo" with "useMemo" or "useCallback" to prevent unnecessary re-renders.
Small change, big performance win.
