A dashboard with 40 metrics is not more useful than one with 5. It's just harder to read.
Most Excel dashboards fail not because the formulas are wrong, but because every number is treated as equally important. The person looking at it has to do the prioritizing themselves, which defeats the purpose of a dashboard in the first place.
A better approach: pick the 3-5 numbers that actually drive a decision this week. Revenue trend. Margin by product line. Orders at risk. Everything else can live in a supporting tab, not the front page.
The goal isn't to show everything you tracked. It's to make the one number that matters impossible to miss.
