How to increase your average order value without spending a single extra dollar on ads.
These are the four methods I use inside client stores. Each one is implementable this week.
1. The threshold offer.
Set a free shipping or free gift threshold just above your current average order value.
If your AOV sits at $45, set the threshold at $65.
You will be surprised how many customers add one more item to cross it. The psychology is simple: people hate leaving a benefit unclaimed.
2. The post-purchase upsell.
This is the most underused lever in eCommerce.
After checkout is complete and payment is confirmed, present a single relevant offer. Acceptance rates on a well-matched post-purchase offer typically run between 15 and 30 percent.
3. The bundle.
Take your two or three most complementary products and build a bundle priced at a discount that still increases your margin per transaction.
Bundles reduce decision fatigue, increase perceived value, and naturally lift AOV without any additional acquisition cost.
4. The subscription nudge.
If any of your products are consumable or used repeatedly, offer a subscription option at a modest discount.
You capture a higher lifetime value customer and they never have to remember to reorder.
None of these require a new ad campaign. None require a new audience.
They require a funnel that is set up to capture the full value of every customer you already have.
That is the highest leverage game in eCommerce right now.
Which of these are you already running? And which one are you missing? Tell me in the comments.
