In the Wellcome Collection I found a little-known set of trade portraits painted around 1840 by an unnamed artist from Tanjore, in present-day Tamil Nadu.
Each plate shows a working man and “his wife” on a flat yellow ground under a cloudy sky, with long brushy shadows and a line of palms on the horizon.

Every shot is AI-generated and art directed to feel like a still from an early 2000s teen movie: 35mm film look, warm golden undertone, hands-only POV, no faces.

Posting it on October 29 is a nice touch. Hands-only POV is a smart call too; it keeps you inside the memory and avoids the face consistency problem that usually gives an AI sequence away.
