Overview: The Nreader is a versatile, ESP32-based RFID/NFC device engineered for identity verification, secure access control, and industrial equipment management. As the Lead Architect, I developed a "One Board, Three Modes" flexible architecture that delivers professional-grade performance while maintaining a total BOM cost of under $10 USD.
► Skills Used: ● Systems Architecture: Cost-optimized hardware/software co-design. ● PCB design (Altium/KiCad) ● Firmware Development(C/C++). ● Embedded WebSocket(C++/HTML5/Javascript).
► "One Board, Three Modes, Two Purposes": A single hardware platform supporting three core communication modes to adapt to diverse industrial and commercial environments: ● USB Mode: Functions as a standard Serial device for plug-and-play compatibility with all major OSs. ● MQTT Mode (Wi-Fi): Acts as an independent IoT node for cloud-based data collection and centralized management. ● I2C Mode: Operates as a slave module for deep integration into larger industrial control systems or workstations.
► Key Engineering & Product Features: ● Dynamic RFID Encryption: Unlike standard readers, Nreader supports dynamic card encryption, ensuring that cloned or unauthorized cards are rejected, providing bank-level security for industrial access. ● Real-Time WebSocket Interaction: The built-in management interface leverages WebSocket technology to ensure zero-latency synchronization between the device and the browser. Card detection and data operations are reflected in the UI instantly, providing a seamless "Desktop App" experience without any installation. ● App-Free & Cross-Platform: Managed entirely via a standard web browser. No drivers or specialized apps are required, ensuring 100% compatibility with Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android. ● Versatile Provisioning: Supports AP Mode for direct offline configuration, STA Mode for corporate network integration, and WeChat Airkiss for one-click setup. ● Extreme Cost Control: By leveraging deep firmware-level optimization, I achieved complex industrial functionality on minimal hardware, driving the mass-production cost to under $10 USD. ● Broad Protocol Support: Compatible with ISO14443A, ISO15693, and ISO18092, with full support for APDU commands for high-security credential handling.
► Scalability & Proven Success: ● Industrial Integration: The Nreader has been successfully integrated as the core authentication module in a Mass-Deployed ESOP+MES ecosystem (2023), serving thousands of workstations in high-pressure manufacturing environments.
