Vibe coding made code cheap. Context is becoming expensive.
A landing page can now be built in minutes. A SaaS MVP can be built in days.
But a few months later, that same product may have auth, billing, APIs, background jobs, database changes, integrations, and multiple AI agents touching the same workflow.
Then one “small change” is no longer small.
Claude or Codex needs the right context before it can safely change anything.
And that is where I think the next big problem starts:
Context debt.
The code may work perfectly today, but every new feature needs more history, more files, more previous decisions, and more understanding of what other agents are already doing.
More context also means more tokens.
And more tokens do not always mean better output.
Now think about an AI-powered e-commerce business.
A support agent processes a refund. A retention agent sends an offer. A finance agent updates the account. An inventory agent changes stock.
Each action may be correct on its own.
The overall result can still be wrong.
That is why I think the real skill in AI development is moving away from simply generating code.
It is knowing:
what context each agent needs
what it should never touch
which agent owns which task
when agents should hand work to each other
when a human should step in
The future is probably not less AI-generated code.
It is more useful output from less context, with much tighter control around how every agent works.
That is where AI engineering starts after vibe coding ends.
