TRANSCENDENCE
The Met’s “Pair of gold armbands,” made around 200 B.C., depicts two tritons, each holding a small winged Eros. I took that ancient embrace as the beginning of a new story.
Two golden guardians release their small companions into a world waiting to unfold. The tenderness they received becomes the courage to explore. Their touch awakens a great winged being. An ocean spills into darkness and becomes a sky.
In its constellations, the companions recognize their guardians.
They let go. The universe grew.
The film explores the extraordinary reach of an ordinary human act: giving someone the love and freedom to become themselves. That care travels with them, shaping other lives and creating possibilities far beyond our own.
The guardians’ return as stars carries the idea at the heart of the piece:
Love outlives the shape that held it.
An embrace, a cheek touch and an opening hand establish the emotional stakes. As the world expands from the seabed into the cosmos, those small gestures remain the reason it matters.
This is my first post on Contra and my first creative contest entry. Sharing it feels like completing the story in a small way of my own.
