Why so many teams are choosing Flutter/React Native alongside native 📱
For years, native Kotlin and Swift were the default for serious apps, and cross-platform was seen as a compromise. That's shifted not because native fell behind, but because cross-platform finally caught up.
The biggest driver is cost and speed. Building one codebase for both iOS and Android is faster to ship and easier to maintain than running two native teams in parallel. React Native and Flutter also closed the performance gap that used to make teams hesitate, so switching no longer means giving something up.
Native still wins where it matters most: deep hardware access, heavy camera work, real-time audio, advanced biometrics. Those apps need it, full stop. But for most business and consumer apps, teams now have a real choice instead of a default, and that's the actual shift: not cross-platform replacing native, but both having a clear lane.
Curious how other teams are making this call? Let's discuss.
