How I made a client's website 18% faster by changing two lines of CSS. No complicated code. No new unstable tricks. Just a small shift in how the browser decides what to render first. Here is the idea in one sentence: you already know lazy loading for images, where the browser only loads an image when the visitor scrolls near it. There is a CSS property that does the same thing for entire sections of a page. The browser skips the layout and paint work for below-the-fold sections until the visitor is about to see them. The second line reserves the space in advance so the page does not jump around as it loads. I applied it to all the below-the-fold sections of a client's Webflow site (FAQ, Testimonials, long CMS lists, Footer) and benchmarked it properly: same network, same device, multiple runs. Rendering performance improved by around 18% on that project. The number will be different for every site. Google's own example on web.dev shows a 232ms render time dropping to 30ms on a long page, so there is real headroom on heavier layouts. Why I am sharing this as more than a dev tip: The biggest speed improvements on a mature website almost never come from redesigns. They come from small, specific decisions in the rendering pipeline. That is a useful mental model for anyone maintaining a web presence: before the next big rebuild, it is worth asking where the quiet, cheap wins are hiding. Core Web Vitals also feed into search ranking, so this kind of work pays twice, once in user experience and once in visibility. But there is a downside and limitations! Smooth Scroll behaviour, scroll animations or Anchor links can be affected. So it is not recommended to use it on anchor link heavy pages and on every section. Also you should be aware that the section height should be as precise as possible.
