The Everyday Botanical
The Everyday Botanical brings botanical ornament out of the archive and into contemporary daily life. I used reference plates from Plants and Their Application to Ornament (1896), published under the direction of Eugène Grasset and accessed through The Public Domain Review, to build a custom Recraft Style. Across seven illustrations, stylized plants become rainwear, ceramics, accessories, wallpaper, upholstery, and household textiles. E-scooters, selfies, television, and a laundrette place the historical visual language in scenes its original makers could never have encountered in this form. The series explores how ornament can connect what we wear, what we use, and the spaces we inhabit.
